SAN ISIDRO

Madrid’s main festival takes place during the week of May 15th, with street parties, bullfights, locals dressing up in costume and concerts throughout the city. Sun, sangría and a swingin’ dance known as the chotis.

Where to go
Don’t be put off by the aggressive way Madrileños drive; grab your bike and head to the neighborhoods of Chamberí and La Latina to explore the side streets, many of which still lie along their original Moorish configurations. Once you’ve seen the best of the city, throw your ride on a train and head out to the countryside and the mountains: to the wineries that lie along the Tagus River to the south; or along the old Republican Highway, which formerly linked Segovia to towns in the central Sierra area.

This month...
Seville is fast becoming famous as the city which is destroying the stereotypes that Spaniards either can’t or won’t become urban cyclists.
