Learn what makes
the country tick.
At its most basic, "culture" means "the way WE do things here". In a country as diverse as Spain, there are lot of different ways of doing different things, and that's part of what makes it a great place to visit - you never have to have the same experience twice.Culture is what makes cycle touring really exciting. When you step outside the canister of a motorized vehicle, you open yourself up to experiencing a lot more of a region and its culture - cuisine, art, wines and literature and architecture - not just in the present day, but how they've always done it.
Some of Spain's most outstanding cycling experiences take riders through historic cities and past the world's most remarkable collections of art and architecture. And wherever you go, there's always a good meal to be had along the way.
What not to miss when you're here:
Olive oil pressing: Heading to Andalusia in November, December and January? Be sure to ask the local tourist office for a visit to an
almazara, or traditional oil mill. You'll see how top-grade virgin olive oil has been made since the times of the Romans, and if you're lucky, they may let you loose in the olive groves with your own stick so you can harvest, collect and press your very own oil!
